Plume Estate Vineyard Café

Plume Estate is the newest of the wineries in the Bickley/Carmel Valley region of the Perth Hills. They opened to the public on Easter Saturday and I went along to taste the wines and have a look over the place. And I was their first customer.

It is nestled on the side of the hill in Glen Isla Road with stunning views down the valley and over the vines growing opposite. The steep gravel track in and out is a bit of a challenge but worth the trouble.

While I tasted all of their wines – and then bought a dozen to take away – I wasn’t able to try the food as they were booked out – friends ensuring the first day went off well no doubt.

I can say the small café area with the views over the vines looks to be a great spot to sit, eat or have a glass of their wine.

The blackboard menu boasted a couple of platters – vineyard and Turkish, walnut and sage quiche and a couple of desserts, lemon and almond cake among them. We will be back soon to try them out and give some more informed comment on the food offerings.  The vineyard dog kept a careful eye on proceedings.

The wines were very good and are subject to a coming review – wines are made offsite by Myattsfield and Fairbrossen and include sparkling made from Pinot Noir, rosé made from merlot, a couple of chardonnays, merlot, shiraz and a fortified shiraz.

We had a great wine tasting session there yesterday and although I didn’t try any of the food, this place is definitely on my radar for another trip. The views are some of the best in the Bickley Valley and my friend and I were both agreed that the wines were very good. So good, in fact that a few bottles came home with me.
