On our recent lunch foray to Butterworth Bar and Kitchen in Sherwood Court we chose a bottle of 2014 Mt Trio Riesling to accompany our meal. Mt Trio vineyard is on the slopes of the Porongurups and turns out some excellent wines. We first tried the 2014 late last year at the fantastic Raising Riesling show at the Royal Perth Yacht Club and enjoyed the small taste we had then – a bottle seemed a logical choice.
The wine is very light straw in colour with spicy, citrus aromatics, flowing through to wonderful juicy, chalky lime notes on the palate. It is a refined, delicate expression of Riesling, with good acidity and a very long finish with a little hint of sweet lemon on the mid palate. I marked it 95 at Raising Riesling and have no reason to alter that – it is a lovely example of Great Southern Riesling and perfect as an aperitif or with food. It will age gracefully as well.
