After a Fringe show at the Pleasure Garden (Russell Square to those non-Fringers) we stopped in for a feed (and a drink) at Yes Please Perth, just across the road in James Street – they open until 2AM each day, serving food and drink up till closing time – no rest for the kitchen, here.
A mural wall on James Street guides you up the stairs to the open, airy dining space, with windows opening out to the park as well as James Street – bright colours and banquette seating, along with stools and benches and a collection of knick-knacks all come together to add a certain charm to the place.
A small but well-constructed wine list is divided into Fizzle, No Skins, Some Skin, and Skins sections – and has entrants from across the country – some of them rarely seen on lists around town. And it was to one of these we were drawn – from Margaret River small batch producer Skigh McManus Skigh Wines Koda Rosé – a ripper, all strawberries and spice on the nose, pale salmon hue and a dry as a bone palate of pomegranates and cranberries. Just delicious.
As for the food they have put together a changing menu – on which their house baked bread features strongly – with a sandwich of the day high on the list of must haves for future visits. A vegan delight also features on the menu.
And it was this latter dish for me – bruschetta – a selection of chopped luscious, sweet tomatoes heaped on slices of charred bread, along with red onion, parsley, garlic and tangy balsamic dressing. A large serve and just what the doctor ordered – light, fresh and refreshing.
For Lady FWO, look no further than the burger – tender, juicy wagyu beef, in a soft milk bun, along with crisped bacon, melting yellow cheese, lettuce and roasted garlic aioli – a brilliant burger from all accounts.
The guys who run the place have great experience in other bars and restaurants around town and their enthusiasm and talent show through – Yes Please is a great addition to the Northbridge scene – excellent food and wine, friendly service, it has got it all – perfect, too, for an after-Fringe food and wine binge!
