Winter fare at the Woody

One of our go to places for a quick meal, with serves both generous and inexpensive, the Woody is one of four pubs within close walking distance of our place in Guildford. An old heritage pub, with live music on occasion, an eclectic collection of advertising hoardings on the walls, this place has a great atmosphere.

The wine list is small but there is always something on it to attract the eye and the palate, while the menu is traditional pub grub style, but very well cooked and presented, quick to be served, and large in proportion – bring your appetite.

On our most recent visit we settled on a couple of the small starters which were more than enough for our lunch – and the walk to and back must have at least taken some of the calories away!
prawns

Garlic prawns, seven nice sized, – served in a small bowl alongside a mound of well-cooked rice and a green salad, lightly dressed – were cooked with their tails, and in a very creamy and garlicky flavoured sauce…spot on.

FishCakes

And the other dish, smoked salmon fish cakes, crisp skinned, salty and moist inside, came with creamy garlic infused mayo and crushed and minced avocado – plus a salad to top it off. Another really well turned out pub dish.

A couple of glasses of red, and that was our very pleasant and enjoyable lunch – we will be back soon, I am sure!
