Wines

Ironwood 2013 Riesling

From Gene and Mary Harma’s lovely little winery on the Porongurup Road, comes this excellent expression of Great Southern Riesling. Pale straw in colour, this wine has an aromatic nose, floral and underpinned by lifted citrus notes. A fresh, lime juice filled palate, with fine acidity, leads on to a long, crisp and satisfying finish. (94)

Fairbrossen 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon

Fairbrossen in the Carmel Valley produces this one from Margaret River fruit. It has concentrated plum and blackcurrant aromas, with a hint of mint. On the palate, chocolate and plum flavours are supported by smooth tannins, and good use of oak. It should cellar well in the medium term. (92)

Plume Estate 2012 Sparkling

Made from Pinot Noir grapes grown on the property, this straw hued wine has lemon and lime aromas on the nose, with an underlying note of yeast. The palate is lively, full of green apple and grapefruit flavours and with a crisp and dry finish. (90).

I am going down that way this weekend, this may sound a bit dumb but the name of the winery is Ironwood Estate? Any idea the approximate prices of the wines?

    Cheers

Hey Sam, Ironwood on Porongurup Rd out past the village going towards Chester Pass Rd ; v good wines range from $18 to $25, most around $18 – neat cafe with simple but tasty food – quiches etc – nice outlook; friendly owners; well worth a visit – but essential to go to Dukes winery as well, same road closer to Mt Barker; and Abbey Creek and if you like Thai food Maleeya Thai next door to Dukes.
