We were invited along last week to Wassup Dog in Royal Street, East Perth, by owner Jules to try out a new breakfast dish they have on the menu – they open from 6AM each morning and stay open till 3PM Monday to Wednesday and to 9PM on other days – so are a great option for the workers in the area looking for a breakfast, lunch and dinner option.
A hotdog place is not my usual choice of venue but gee I was very impressed by what we had – and even more when I found it was licenced – always a plus I think!
So to the food – the breakfast dish – the Lowdown was a hit – incredibly tender, pull apart brisket, served on crusty toast, topped with two perfectly poached eggs, all runny and golden, and slathered with creamy, zesty chilli hollandaise (and they are happy to up the chilli hit if that is your wish) – a breakfast of champions. Absolutely nailed it.
Since we were there, it seemed right to try one of the dogs – and I note from the website they specialise in serving up vegan options –so that is what I ordered. The “dog” is a crisply fried sausage shaped hash–brown in a warm bun, topped with lettuce, avocado, tomato, capsicum and corn salsa, and I slathered on some of that wonderful chilli hollandaise to add a little piquancy.
We also tried their chips – again really well done – crisply fried, floury and fluffy inside, and more mayo to dip.
With the food we enjoyed a pleasant, lightly wooded chardy which washed it all down.
We came away very impressed by the quality and value for money of the food served up at Wassup Dog. The breakfast dish deserves to be a big hit and the vegan dog was top notch. Absolutely recommended – get along and try it out soon.
