Urban Food Mafia, a café co-located with Funk Cider, in the grounds of the old Valencia winery in Caversham, is open daily from 8AM serving up breakfast, lunch and all day light meals. With seating inside, adjacent to the Funk Cider bar where you can grab a cider or fruit juice to complement your meal, outside on a covered veranda (with misting spray for those hot Swan Valley days) or on the lawn under the trees in the garden, there are plenty of seating options.
When we stopped in for lunch during the week the menu was geared towards burgers, platters, pizza, salads, wings and the like – while the breakfast menu promised dishes ranging from muesli and waffles, through cassoulet and banana bread, to the Skillet Godfather with eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes and garlic toast.
We tried the Bruschetta Italiano and a Gluten Free Funk Burger – the latter consisting of pulled pork with a slightly spicy peri-peri sauce, salad and served with slaw and roasted potato chunks on the side – the pork was tender as expected, the accompaniments fine – a sound burger by any standards.
The bruschetta, three good sized slices of toasted, garlic rubbed ciabatta, piled with a juicy chopped tomato and capsicum mix, a drizzle of basil infused oil and a daub or two of soft mozzarella – pleasant, light meal.
Urban Food Mafia is turning out solid, café style fare, well suited to the surrounds and the cider that goes along with it – rustic, generous portions, not a bad place for a Swan Valley stopover.
