Up a steep set of stairs off James Street you will find the latest bar from the Lot 20, 5 Bar stable – Tiki as FK. The bar area is dark and moody, quite small too, with a wide range of cocktails available from the decorative timber bar where friendly and chatty bar tenders provide a warm welcome.
However the best is yet to come – out the doors at the back and you are on a rooftop or terrace bar – looking out across the city to the Arena, Yagan and Kings Square and directly behind the outdoor area of neighbouring bar, the Standard, in Roe Street. This is really an unexpected and attractive element of this top little bar. The orange white and black striped cushions on the orange couches add a nice little retro touch.
Wine? Well yes…one each of sparkling, white, rosé and red – that’s it, but they are all pretty nice drops – the cava we had was particularly good – crisp, dry with pleasant apple and lemony notes. Perfect for sipping on the terrace and looking across the City.
Food? A selection of grilled meats on a stick – simple but tempting. We didn’t try the food this time but it all sounds fun.
And this is a fun place – with more than a nod to the 60’s. Nothing fancy but all the more appealing for that – and that terrace bar is worth coming along just to experience it.
