On the corner of Scarborough Beach Road and the Esplanade, Sandbar looks out across to the beach; the ocean shimmering in the sun on the warm day I stopped in after a hectic morning of baby-sitting and needing a steadying drink along with lunch (I exaggerate – my little granddaughter was no trouble at all! And she proved a fine luncheon companion, along with her mum.)
Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, the menu is extensive with the lunch offerings featuring many pub favourites – chicken parmi, pizza, croquettes, burgers, fish and chips, pork belly, as well as some tempting salads.
Fish tacos appealed to me and they proved to be on song – a couple of soft corn tortilla folded around battered and deep fried threadfin salmon – juicy and succulent – along with zesty jalapenos, chopped cabbage, pico de gallo salsa and a drizzle of sour cream all came together to make for a very enjoyable meal.
The classic chicken parmi also hit the spot – tender chicken breast, topped with prosciutto and a good whack of melted and browned mozzarella – and the accompanying chips were crisp and floury.
A couple of glasses of Margaret River rosé washed it all down – St Johns Brook Recolte – strawberry and cherry aromas, while the palate was dry and crisp, and refreshing.
A very popular beachfront venue alongside one of the city’s most popular beaches – good food and drink, pleasant atmosphere, friendly waiters, top location. Well worth a visit.
