The Point Bar and Grill, on the river at Point Fraser, held a Melbourne Cup event on Tuesday – and what a show it was. Combining with the stunning views from the venue across the river we had free flowing champagne and a seafood buffet of style.
Kicking off at 11AM with Pol Roger flowing continuously until 3PM, along with beer (although why anyone would want to drink beer with Pol around – but some did, ahh well, no counting for taste), cocktails and roving canapés – California rolls, onion tarts, prawn parcels, croquettes, duck and much more – sweeps and door prizes of course – and a photo booth to capture the feel of the Birdcage and the glamour of the frocks and suits and fascinators and hats and everything else besides!
Then the race on the large screens scattered around the place, the discarding of sweep tickets – well by me at least – and then the unveiling of the seafood buffet – oysters, prawns, salmon, mussels – so much to choose from as well as salads and side dishes. It was an excellent display.
Oysters and champagne – doesn’t get much better than that – but even more with a dessert buffet to follow – cakes, macarons, slices, cupcakes, a huge range – including fruit for the healthy.
The end came around far too soon – well perhaps from the amount of Pol Roger we were knocking back, perhaps just in time and then off to Uber our way home….
This was one of the best Melbourne Cup events we have been to – everything was well organised, great staff on hand, plenty of food and drink, and of very high quality, and of course the venue itself is something special with its setting among the best in town.
We have enjoyed previous visits to eat at Point Bar and Grill but this was a truly memorable event!
