The National Hotel in Fremantle has recently opened a rooftop bar – with panoramic views across the city and adding to the lustre of the renovated, heritage listed hotel on the corner of High Street. Taking the lift up to the roof you are immediately struck by the view looking every way over Fremantle, the city, the port, Monument Hill.
Tables, chairs, benches, stools and couches provide a range of seating options, with large umbrellas providing shade over the warmer months – while the ocean breeze keeps things comfortable.
A most striking element is the bar area – set inside the belvedere that dominates the roofline of the hotel – a great idea utilising a Fremantle landmark.
A tidy wine list and a range of platters complement the inviting ambience of the bar – we enjoyed a bottle of Castle Rock Skywalk Riesling – a fine example of the Great Southern style – crisp, lovely aromatics and fine acid – perfect companion to the seafood platter we ordered.
The platter with mussels, squid, octopus, fried fish, salad, chips and bread made for an excellent share plate as we sat looking out over Freo.
The rooftop at the National is destined to become a must visit place in the Port city – get along soon and enjoy the outlook, the food, drinks and atmosphere.
