The Loft is the bar of the newly opened Intercontinental Perth (the refurbished Rydges) at the corner of Hay and King Street –on the first floor of the hotel it also has al fresco dining and drinking on the terrace outside the bar.
We stopped in yesterday to check it out – the last time we had been there was over two years ago for out daughter’s wedding – and since then the hotel has been completely revamped, opening as I said quite recently.
The décor is light and elegant, and the terrace area attractively presented with garden walls at each end.
The small wine list includes a number of WA producers among those on offer, and taking a seat by the window we ordered a glass of Howard Park Jeté Rosé, and one of Galafrey Riesling from Mount Barker.
As we had already partaken of lunch we just ordered a couple of bar snacks to go with the wine – a bowl of mixed olives and another of Guindilla peppers with pickled garlic. The latter very spicy peppers certainly bringing a sheen to the brow and the garlic tempered by the pickling process so that we did not necessarily affront fellow passengers on the way home!
Our waiter was welcoming and professional, quick to bring water and complimentary mixed nuts while we looked over the wine list and menu. All in all, the Loft is a very pleasant drinking and casual dining spot and the terrace area will, I am sure, prove very popular on the warm days and evenings ahead.
