Rifos, on the corner of Guildford Rd and 8th Avenue stands as something of a bookend to the revitalization of the Maylands strip which began along Whatley Crescent and has moved up the Avenue to where Rifos stood a lonely coffee and breakfast haven for some years. And popular before Maylands transmogrified into a place to hang out, it is still as buzzing as ever.
On Lady FWO’s recent breakfast visit she managed to find a table and, complimentary West Australian to hand, she ordered her usual latte along with eggs and mushrooms.
The coffee was, as she requires, middling rather than strong, creamy, smooth, slightly sweet, and just at the right temperature.
Breakfast came as two large field mushrooms, earthy, meaty and juicy, alongside a couple of poached eggs, grain bread toast and a dollop of wilted spinach and slippery roasted red capsicum. The eggs were oozy, runny and with a sprinkle of salt and pepper just what the doctor, well Lady FWO, ordered.
Rifos is a well fitted out place, buzzy, friendly and as well as breakfast offers Italian themed food for lunch and dinner, well cooked, generous in the proportions and well-priced. Licenced, Rifos is an inviting little café, laid back, comfortable and well worth a visit.
