Certainly the most picturesque coffee shop/café in Guildford, Poste is in the grounds of the old Guildford Post Office which is now a landscaping service and garden centre full of greenery and attractive plants, water features and other garden ornaments among which you sit as you sip on your coffee and sample the cakes and savouries on offer.
There is also indoor seating, but when the weather is fine as it was today the only place to sit was among the plants – adjacent to the historic Mechanics Institute, I was entertained by a vocal game of bocce going on next door!
My coffee was on point – the barista even asks how hot you want it – smooth, creamy, velvety with some notes of caramel and an aromatic bouquet – lovely.
As well as excellent coffee, Poste also serve tea and juices, and a selection of cakes and biscuits, and an assortment of savouries – sandwiches and the like. I was tempted by a home-made cinnamon scroll – beautiful buttery, flaky pastry, plenty of cinnamon filling, and a sprinkle of sweet icing and walnuts. It was a boon companion to my coffee, but didn’t last long!
Very popular, especially on days like today, with very good coffee, a friendly and talented French accented barista, along with a tempting selection of cakes to accompany the coffee and tea, in such a lovely garden setting in the historic heart of Guildford, Poste is somewhere you should definitely try when out in the Valley.
