Myattsfield in the picturesque Bickley Valley has an extensive range of award winning wines – from their excellent sparkling Methode Traditionelle and Sparkling Rosé, through exceptional whites – the Vermentino and Chardonnay particularly noteworthy, as is the newly released Riesling – to reds of very high quality– and here you have, among them, Durif, Touriga and Mourvedre; Myattsfield do a fine Rosé as well and a couple of luscious fortified wines. The grapes come from their vineyards in the Hills as well as from others in more southern regions – the Pinot Noir and Riesling are sourced from Pemberton, while the Chardonnay hails from Manjimup.
The cellar door has a lovely outlook from the shaded veranda out front across vines and down the valley – truly a place to sit in soak up the view. To add to the attraction they have recently introduced a wine cabinet from which you can put together a selection of fine cheese, olives, charcuterie and other accompaniments, crackers and biscuits to make up a platter – then sit out at the tables on the veranda with a glass or bottle of wine and enjoy a relaxing lunch.
The Long Table Lunches held each year are hugely popular, as is the Bickley Valley Harvest Festival with Scarecrow Competition held at Myattsfield to aid Muscular Dystrophy. And the Hills Spring Festival – on through October and November is the perfect time to get up to the Hills.
Winemakers and owners, Josh and Rachael Davenport, have created a wonderful destination in the Perth Hills – one of the excellent wine regions on Perth’s doorstep – and you really should get and about and explore the Hills – great wine, food, cider and views – and make sure Myattsfield is one of the first places you visit.
