The long established café bookshop in Millpoint Road, South Perth offers two of the favourite pastimes – reading and eating (pity they aren’t licenced and I would never leave!).
A great range of book to browse and buy is the first thing to catch your eye, but then the food – a few tables inside among shelves, but with most of the tables in the shaded and sheltered al fresco area – grab a seat and check out the menu. With a breakfast menu from 8AM to 2.30PM, covering dishes like eggs Florentine, French toast, a hotpot of beans and chorizo, and sautéed mushrooms – while the lunch menu which kicks in at 11.30AM until stumps at 2.30PM has offerings such as BLT, cheeseburgers and risotto.
The chicken quesadilla, crisp tortillas sandwiching a filling of juicy chook, spinach, black beans and melting cheddar, topped with a spicy tomato sauce and sour cream drizzled over, and accompanied by a mild corn salsa, was good value.
Our other lunch choice was equally as enjoyable – grilled haloumi salad – the cheese grilled to a squeaky consistency, accompanied by layered crisp green leaves, tomatoes, pumpkin, cashews with a squeeze of pesto – good, healthy, simple fare.
And of course the coffee – the right temperature, creamy and nutty, with just a note of pleasant bitterness on the finish. Good stuff.
A popular spot for many years, Millpoint Caffé Bookshop, is still hitting all the right notes
