We quite often pop into Market Grounds for a drink or quick meal – in Kings Square it is a substantial venue and very popular – especially if something is going on at the nearby Perth Arena. The wine list is pretty good – I can always find something that attracts and the food is pub style but done well.
Three of us stopped in for an early feed before going on to a concert and with a glass or two of rosé in hand we ordered three dishes from the bar menu between us.
First off, a chicken burger, buns filled with tender chook and avocado – fries and tomato dipping sauce. Good looking and satisfying dish.
The ubiquitous Chicken Parmi was next – tender chicken breast, sloshed with rich tomato sugo, mozzarella, served with chips – again a substantial and well-cooked dish.
The final dish – fried prawns with Kaffir lime crumbs served with wasabi mayo – unfortunately these had been left too long in the fryer and were very dark and the crumbs quite overcooked – for all that the prawns themselves were reasonably good. Two minutes less and they would have been fine. The mild wasabi mayo was creamy with a pleasant little zip.
All in all, despite the prawns, we enjoyed our visit once again – it is well placed between the rail station and Arena, well designed, pretty good food and drink, very friendly and welcoming waiters – certainly worth a visit.
