Little Guildford currently is open for breakfast and lunch until 2PM, with an earlier opening time on weekends – and they have recently opened the delightful Little Vines bar and café out the back of the restaurant which I have reviewed a week or so ago.
Anyway, there is a choice of indoor or outdoor seating and today, on a warm if a little overcast day, out the front among the trees and gardens looking out across to the historic Rose and Crown was an easy choice to make. We settled in with a glass of Oakover rose to await our food – the wine list is exclusively Swan Valley wines, which is welcome being, as it is, at the gateway to the Valley.
The menu is not extensive, but has some appealing options and today we chose salmon cakes and vegetarian Nasi Goreng.
The latter, spiced rice with mushrooms mixed through, topped with an oozy fried egg and coriander and sliced green chilli, was a satisfying light lunch – I would have preferred a little more chilli heat but for all that it was enjoyable and pretty good value.
Our other choice – a large salmon cake – with a lot of salmon along with potato, – topped by a couple of poached eggs, again nicely oozy – sauce hollandaise and asparagus was also good value and well presented.
A quick lunch, good sized serves, well turned out, a couple of glasses of vino and sitting in the gardens on a pleasant Tuesday in Guildford – not a bad place to be. It is well worth a visit – as is Little Vines out back on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
