Fruitful Pursuit, a collective of wine lovers, wine makers and enthusiasts, organised a fabulous event earlier this year at the Bird in William Street and a couple of weeks ago returned to Perth, this time at the new bar and restaurant in QV1, Tinys, to put on another show – Left Wine.
It was a day to celebrate innovative wine makers from across the country, with about 16 wineries in attendance with three of their best to taste – again it was everything we expected after the earlier show – outstanding wines, the chance to chat with the winemakers, and mingle with other wine lovers – and of course a snack or two from the food on offer at this excellent restaurant.
It was the perfect venue – the crowd was of manageable size so it was never overcrowded – and you could move easily between the various wine staging stations – and from Tinys Liquor Emporium you could buy a bottle or three to take with you.
There were some excellent wines – many of which you rarely see around the traps in Perth – one of my favourite Barossa wineries Small Fry with the amazing Tangerine Dream – Cape Jaffa, By Jingo, Swinging Bridge, Old Mate, Delinquente – as well as some of the best of WA new wave producers – La Violetta, Brave New Wine, Amato Vino, Dormilona, Express Winemakers.
Swan Valley Wines, the pioneer of natural wines in the Swan Valley, were there and had three absolute crackers to taste – a brand new skin contact Chenin Blanc, a Pet Nat, and their excellent Frisson rosé – these were so good we made a quick journey to the winery on the weekend to buy a few bottles – and if you love natural wines, you should do the same.
All in all, it was a day to savour and we will be eagerly looking forward to the return of Fruitful Pursuit to Perth – you can sign up on their website for updates of events and other wine news – well worth it.
