Kappys remains one of our favourite restaurants and we go along on a pretty regular basis – and being only a very short walk from home is a bonus. With a seasonally changing menu, and black boarded specials, you can always bank on some dish to tempt you.
On our most recent visit we kicked off proceedings with a bottle of rosé from Stella Bella – the 2018 Otro Vino, made from Sangiovese, fragrant cherries on the nose, savoury, tangy palate with flavours of strawberries and cherries. Summer drinking at its best.
And as for the food, well we began with smoked salmon salad – juicy rolls of salmon accompanied by crisp fresh vegetables – tomato, red onion, cucumber, lettuce, along with black olives and crumbled feta – fresh flavours, a very summery dish indeed.
Next scaloppine masala – tender, melt in your mouth veal, topped with a creamy, piquant blue cheese based sauce served with potato, snappy beans and roasted red capsicum. A hearty, generously sized dish, well cooked and presented.
Breaded Fremantle sardines followed – crisply coated fillets of local sardines on a bed of fresh salad made for another very enjoyable and light dish.
We don’t normally manage dessert but this time we did – thankfully – and the profiteroles filled with lemon custard, served with fresh cream, burnt butter sauce and berries was simply delightful. Loved it.
Another enjoyable and successful visit to this little neighbourhood gem!
