You know the seafood will always be fresh at Kailis Brothers restaurant in Leederville, sitting right alongside their justifiably famous fish market where a huge array of freshly caught seafood is on display. The restaurant itself is a large, light, airy space with comfortable furniture and attentive waiters.
The menu, of course, leans strongly to seafood and that is just what we wanted on our lunchtime visit – a hot Perth day with seafood and chilled wine – what better way to spend an afternoon? A bottle of Grenache rose from Rogers and Rufus of the Barossa set us up – strawberries and cherries on the nose and palate, with a refreshingly dry finish.
Then onto the food – a small plate of marinated Fremantle sardines – slightly vinegared flavours, plump and juicy – sitting on charred ciabatta certainly ticked a lot of boxes.
Then a bowl of sizzling garlic prawns – hot, aromatic, sweetly fleshed prawns in a heady garlic infused oil – very good indeed.
And my highlight – a plate of crisply fried snapper wings, cooked with a zesty sticky chilli and soy glaze – tender fish, crisp skin, chill heat, sticky and beautifully presented – finger bowls a must here! Loved this – a top dish.
Kailis is a seafood specialist and it shows – the food is very good quality – a touch more expensive than your run of the mill fish shop of course – but well worth every cent. Definitely a Leederville destination.
