Through four events over July and August the Café at the Hyatt is transforming itself into an artisan market showcasing the best of the West, including food, wine, beer and spirits – and last week we were invited along to check it out.
In the foyer of the hotel outside the Café booths and displays have been set up to allow a taste or three of some of the goodies on offer – on the night we were there seafood was the focus, with fantastic ocean trout from Abacus Fisheries tempting the palate. One of the highlights was the twists of trout served in a glass over a sensational jelly infused with Hippocampus gin – brilliant.
Hippocampus were along too, showcasing their gin and vodka – but we were disappointed to hear that this is the last week of Hippocampus at their West Perth distillery – they are off to Melbourne to co-locate with their sister brewery, Boatrocker – oh, well at least we will still be able to buy their outstanding spirits in stores around town. They are one of WA’s best…..
Bootleg Brewery, one of the stalwarts of Margaret River beer had their brews on offer, and Mark Warren from Happs was there to talk about the Happs range of wines. All top shelf stuff.
The wine, beer and gin flowed freely across the hour or so we were there – and it was a great opportunity to talk with the suppliers as well as the staff of the Hyatt to get an understanding of their plans for the future and a taste of what is on offer in the Café over coming months.
There are a couple of sessions left so check the website and make a booking – it is well worth it!
