Hao Szechuan revisited

Not having been to Hao Szechuan for a time, and hankering after some spicy food, we decided a visit was due – they knock out some of the best Szechuan food around, and the value is outstanding, too.

They have moved on from printed menus to an Ipad which you use to scroll through and order – not sure about that, especially as we seemed to keep losing the screen and summoning the waiter – perhaps a printed menu or two for the semi computer illiterate would help!

Anyway, we got there in the end, and remembering past visits and the size of the serves were quite circumspect in our orders this time.


Our main dish – spicy clams – was an absolute beauty. A very large serve of plump, juicy clams cooked in a spicy mix of whole garlic cloves, strips of punchy ginger, zesty chopped chill, spring onions and of course a good smattering of mouth numbing Szechuan pepper. A fabulous dish – plenty of spice and the clams were perfectly cooked, retaining all their salty ocean goodness and flavour.


With them we had a couple of smaller dishes – a plate of fried prawn wontons – crisply fried with a juicy filling of mildly spiced chopped prawn flesh with a creamy mayo to dip.

And cabbage with chilli – glistening cabbage, slices of fried chilli – all very healthy and again plenty of flavour here.

They are not licenced but BYO is fine– and they are quick to supply glasses and the rest.

Another very enjoyable visit to Hao Szechuan – if you are after a plate of spicy food, and at great prices, with friendly and helpful service you should not go past these guys.
