Frisk – if you are on the lookout for gin, then this is the place for you – with around 100 gins ready to go it is an essential stop for gin lovers. Up the Russell Square end of Francis Street, it is quite small inside with exposed concrete ceilings and walls, while outside on the footpath are a number of tables, benches and chairs, under shady umbrellas.
As well as their signature spirit Frisk have a small list of wines, a few more beers, and rum, whiskey, cognac, Scotch and other goodies for your pleasure. Bar snack style food – olives, fishcakes – is available to soak up the booze, too.
But it is gin that is the attraction here – and among the beauties on offer is the Fabulous Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz from Healesville in Victoria, matured in red wine casks and taking on a reddish hue.
While yet another excellent example is from McLaren Vale distiller, Settlers – their Rare Dry. Both great examples of the outstanding gins being produced around Australia.
Frisk really is a top little small bar – very friendly and knowledgeable bar staff only too happy to assist and talk you through some of those unfamiliar drops and make suggestions as to accompaniments.
