Another selection of wines well worth trying…..
Forest Hill 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon
From WA’s oldest cool climate vineyard the Highbury Fields Cabernet Merlot of Forest Hill. Rich red hue with lifted aromas of blackberries, plums and liquorice leading onto a smooth, medium bodied palate of dark chocolate and black plum flavours supported by dusty tannins. From my Wine Selectors pack.
Pretty Boy 2017 Delinquente Rosé
Eye catching label to go with a delicious easy drinking rosé from Delinquente Wine Company. From Nero D’Avola grapes and a bright pink hue it has aromas of crushed rose petals and ripe strawberries. A touch of juicy mid palate sweetness belies the crisp finish, full of strawberry and cherry flavours. Pretty boy indeed. Purchased from Gooseberry Hill Cellars.
Konpira Maru 2017 Kavorka Saperavi
Anyone who watched Seinfeld will know Kavorka…the lure of the animal…well this Saperavi from Konpira Maru Wine Company may not be quite that but it certainly chucks up some interesting aromas and flavours. Dark inky black it has aromas of spiced fruit, prunes and cinnamon. The palate shows firm grippy tannins with flavours of bitter dark chocolate, rhubarb and ripe plums. We had it chilled but as it warmed more chocolate and juicy fruit flavours evolved but that mouth coating tannin stayed. A beauty. Bought at Petition Wine who have an exceptional selection of interesting wines for sale.
Small Fry Wines 2017 Barossa Joven
A fabulous Barossa blend of Tempranillo, Grenache, Monastrell, Bastardo and Tinta Amerilla – Joven from Small Fry Wines. Light bright crimson with aromas of raspberries and spice; the palate full of sour cherry, cranberry and liquorice flavours moving through juicy ripe red fruit supported by soft tannins. A bit of a chill would not hurt… Bought online from the winery.
Wild Vines 2016 Grenache Rosé
Rockbare Wild Vine Grenache rosé – Salmon pink with strawberries and cherry aromas; strawberries again on the palate along with a hint of stonefruit, mid palate red apple sweetness, finishing crisply and pretty dry. Nice. Had this at the new super pub at Burswood, the Camfield.
Chalari 2017 Pet Nat
If you are a Pet Nat fan then you have to try this absolutely smashable release from Perth Hills winery Chalari Wines What a ripper. Cloudy with yeasty aromas, and a gluggable palate of tart crunchy green apples with very vibrant acidity to take it home. I may imagine a slight blur of pink around the rim of the glass but I am told it is made from Pinot Noir so maybe there is. Anyway this just released wine is worth seeking out. Got it from one of Perth’s leading bottle shops for new wave wines Mane Liquor.
Deep Woods 2010 Nebbiolo
Delicious 2010 Nebbiolo from Deep Woods in Margaret River. Dark with aromas of cherries and milk chocolate along with the grape’s characteristic tarry and rose petal notes to round it out. Dusty and gravelly on the palate with chocolate and dark plum flavours, fine tannins, smooth long finish. I like this. From the winery on one of our Margaret River visits.
