Friday Drinks with the FWO
Well Friday again, and this time it’s Lady FWO’s birthday – here are some ideas to celebrate with her….
Freehand 2017 Pink Nat
Pink Pet-Nat from Freehand Wines. Made from Shiraz grapes it has a delicate and sustained spritz. The bouquet is for all the world strawberry liquorice while the palate is full of tart raspberries and sour cherries. Cloudy and chewy. A wonderful drop. Great label too. Purchased from Petition Wine.
Moet et Chandon NV
What’s a celebration with champagne? – and Moet always does the job. Beautiful citrus, pear and toasted bread aromas followed by a creamy palate of lemon and green apples. Lingering bubbles. From our local Chateau Guildford Cellars.
Garagiste Le Stagiaire 2017 Pinot Gris
Le Stagiaire Pinot Gris from the Mornington Peninsula. Interesting wine somewhat different in style to other Australian Pinot Gris I have had recently. The bouquet certainly has pear aromas but with some honeyed notes. The palate has flavours of nectarines, pears and nutmeg. Crisp dry. Lovely fresh drinking. Tried at top Canberra wine bar, Temporada.
Jericho 2017 Rosé
From the Adelaide Hills this is made from a very different mix…Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Gris. Coloured like onion skin it has a bouquet of cherries and strawberries, with a note of red apples; the palate is very dry showing flavours of raspberries, white strawberries and plums. Fine acid flows through to a long crisp conclusion – just the thing. Picked up at Petition Wine.
Tbilvino 2013 Saperavi
Sourced from the Napareuli sub region in Georgia it is dark cherry red with blackberry and tobacco fragrances; the palate shows some sour cranberry flavours with fine acid leading to a long finish. Very pleasant drinking indeed. From mail order at Dan Murphys.
Snake and Herring 2012 Calypso
2012 Calypso a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon from Margaret River. Rich crimson with a heady bouquet of mulberries, ripe plums and a floral note reminiscent of dried rose petals. Full of dark fruit flavours, milk chocolate and cedar supported by firm tannins. Purchased from the winery.
Honey Badger 2017 Deborah
Honey Badger Deborah is a collaboration between Dormilona and Brave New Wine – a blend of Chenin Blanc and Riesling. It is cloudy it is aromatic it is crunchy it is chalky. A refreshing tipple. Get your mouth around it! Picked this up from Mane Liquor.
