Ficus has recently opened on the top floor of Yagan Square – a pleasant outlook looking back to the City and with an attractive fit out – I liked the bentwood chairs in particular.
The ethos of Ficus is seasonal produce, farm to plate dining, with a menu changing as fresh produce rolls in each day from their suppliers – farmers, growers, and fisheries.
On the day I stopped in one of daily specials – salmon with quinoa salad – took my eye – it was very well priced and came out quickly. Presented well on the plate the salmon was crisply skinned and juicy, although for me perhaps cooked for a minute too long – a bit more pink at the centre would have been better – having said that it was a satisfying meal. And the accompanying salad was fresh and refreshing.
With it I had a couple of glasses of Andiamo, skin contact Vermentino from Brave New Wine – slightly cloudy it has a crunchy palate of lemon pith and tart green apples, following a bouquet of pears, honeydew melon and yeasty notes. Very drinkable indeed….
Ficus is certainly worth a look with its commitment to fresh and seasonal produce and a snappy wine list, sitting on top of Yagan Square.
