The well-known Perth pizza shop, Dough, has opened an outlet at the impressive Whitford City food hall – and it seems to have already made its mark in the northern suburbs. It has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with pleasant and appealing décor, and the pizzas are what we have come to expect at the sister store.
As well as an extensive range of wood-fired pizza, the menu offers an array of starters – the arancini balls were particularly good – the coating nicely crisped, with a melting interior of creamy cheese, earthy mushrooms and nutty rice. Big tick!
A dish of calamari also hit the spot – very well cooked – crisply fried, tender while still retaining a pleasant firmness to the bite – mildly spicy, well done.
Seafood pasta – plenty of seafood included here, with the juicy clams particularly on-song; the pasta was well cooked with a lovely al dente texture, but it lacked a little in seasoning – but enjoyable nonetheless.
The pizzas, as I mentioned, were spot on – lovely crisp bases with the toppings as I like – not over the top with mountains of cheese and other ingredients which some places seem to pile on to, probably, disguise the poor quality bases – none of this at Dough – good quality toppings, scattered across the pie – very good.
All in all, Dough is hitting all the right notes – although the food service was tad slow on our visit- friendly and professional waiters, good quality food, value for money, pleasant décor – and the crowd seems to confirm it has a bright future in these northern climes.
