Cornerstone is the bar and dining room of the Mantra Hotel complex on Hay Street- an open, light, airy and nicely appointed place. Service is professional and welcoming.
The lunch menu is firmly of the pub grub style – nothing wrong with that of course, just don’t expect fine dining. You will find dishes such as chicken parmi, beef burgers, fish and chips, and toasties. At night you will find barramundi, lamb rump, steak and braised duck among the choices.
At lunch this week, the Butter Chicken on offer was a sound dish – the chicken plump, tender and juicy, the tomato based masala pleasantly spiced, rich and buttery; a couple of mounds of yellow rice to mop it all up – not bad at all.
A Chicken Caesar panini likewise ticked the boxes as a generously sized well put together sandwich – barbequed chicken, bacon, lettuce, parmesan and mayo and served with chips – again pretty good lunch dish.
The drinks list, as with the food, is reasonable without being particularly inspiring – a glass of Rosé and another of Shiraz were enjoyable.
All in all if you are looking for a good pub meal, then Cornerstone is worth a visit. The food is good value, comes out quickly and what we had well turned out. Good spot for a quick lunch if you work down that end of town.
