Choo Choos revisited!

We always enjoy a drink at Choo Choos, the relaxed and laid back bar in the basement of Brookfield Place – it is a casual and welcoming place and the very epitome of a small bar – it is very small, long and narrow with rough concrete walls, air conditioning ducts on display and totally without pretension.

No wine list – the bottles currently on offer are on display on the bar, or if white in the fridge but they always seem to have something that hits the spot, as they did on this occasion when we dropped in for a drink before a Fringe show up the road – we were on our way to what proved to be a great night with Movin’ Melvin Brown and his Chuck Berry tribute show at the Town hall.

A crisp and dry Spanish rosé – Baluarte Rosado – bright, pale pink with aromas of juicy raspberries and strawberries with the palate showing sharp flavours of cranberries and pomegranates -and an equally crisp and refreshing Italian prosecco – San Martino – straw yellow, pears and a touch of dried mandarin peel on the nose, fine bead, the palate dry with a little mid palate sweet fruit, flavours of Granny Smith apples and citrus.

A complimentary bowl of spicy soy twists helped the wine go down and then we were on our way – Choo Choo’s is a top spot, good fun, good drinks, good times.
