Brygon Reserve Wines

On my recent trip down South I dropped by Brygon Estate’s new cellar door on the Osmington Road, just along from Colonial Brewery. It is a picturesque place set amongst lawns and vines, and offering a wide range of wines to taste under their extensive list of labels.

Among the standouts for me (and the ones I came away with) were:

Bin 808 2014 Rosé

Striking pale pink in colour this wine has a bouquet of strawberries and cherries, while the palate is distinctively dominated by flavours of citrus, pineapple and cranberries – it is crisp, dry and with a somewhat spicy finish. (89)

Bin 8888 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon

Darkly coloured it has lifted aromas of blackcurrants, roasted coffee and mint, while the medium bodied palate is smooth, with fine tannins and juicy dark fruit flavours; good oak treatment and a stylish finish. (91)

The Bruce 2012 Cellar Reserve Merlot

Deep red, this wine has blackberry and plum aromas, with a touch of black pepper and nutmeg. The medium bodied palate has mulberry, mocha and plum flavours to the fore, with some peppery spice on the mid palate; lingering finish. (92)
