Bangkok Brothers in Northbridge have expanded their empire, opening an outlet in Whitford City. As with the city restaurant it is stylishly decorated with attractive and comfortable furniture, plenty of greenery including hanging garden walls and moody lighting to set the scene.
The food also hits the mark, with the same menu as in Northbridge – authentic Thai flavours, well presented dishes, along with some innovative takes on traditional cuisine – with welcoming and friendly waiters it is set to do very well in the Northern suburbs – and already is proving very popular – booking is almost essential.
Chicken in chilli basil sauce was the start of the culinary experience on this visit – stir fried mixed vegetables and tender chicken strips, basil leaves, minced garlic and a good chilli kick made for a zesty and enjoyable dish.
The Satay squid, served in a mild and creamy peanut sauce, along with stir fried vegetables, also hit the spot – the squid tender while retaining a pleasant firmness to the bite, the vegetables lightly cooked and crisp.
Next came a dish of juicy, meaty duck cooked in a sauce of chilli jam, roasted cashews, along with vegetables and topped with a sprinkle more of roasted chilli. Again a fine dish.
Massaman beef was possibly the highlight – succulent beef, slow cooked for six hours, in coconut and massaman curry sauce – as with each dish a generous serve and the meltingly tender meat soaking up the aromatic flavours of the spices.
And finally, one of the classics – Pad Thai – thin rice noodles, bean sprouts, sliced shallots, Tofu Pok, and crushed peanuts – the deep fried tofu steeping the flavours wonderfully. Another well turned out dish.
Licenced, they have a sound if not that innovative wine list, and beer both on tap and bottled – Thailand’s own Chang seemed the way to go, along with a very well done Mango Mocktail…and that was it for this outing.
Bangkok Brothers is, as I noted above, proving very popular in its northern location – and so it should – the food is very good, the ambience welcoming, the waiters professional and friendly – and all good value.
